4th of July Fun

So this is how we spent our 4th of July.. actually we did have a rather enjoyable day, just not such a great night! We spent the night before up at the cabin and then hit the Brighton breakfast first thing in the morning. Then we went with my aunt and uncle and took 4 wheelers across Guardsmans Pass down to Heber. It was really amazing to see how much snow was still on the mountains, and even down low in the valley where the shaded tree areas there was still tons of snow! On the way down the mountain to go see fireworks, I drove to the side of the road to avoid some wood on the left. the next thing i knew the car thumped down and we were in a ditch. The side of the road was so soft from the run off the edge (about 6 inches in) had collapsed leaving us VERY stuck. The front wheels were about 3 feet down so that the car was high centered and at the back wheels the ditch was less than a foot. So I was smart enough to find the one place where the car was sure to get stuck! Believe it or not, we were actually really relieved when we got out of the car because we thought the car was laying completely on its side, since we were only being held in our seats by our seat belts, but it wasn't even touching. We got out of the car and I could see my dad standing at the window of the cabin laughing, right then I knew it was going to be a LONG time before I heard the end of this. My mom immediately came down with her cell phone and started sending text messages with pictures of the car to Spencer who was in Colorado. Ha Ha my family is SO hillarious....

We obviously had to call a tow truck and it only took him about an hour and a half to get it out. He said there were 3 options the first would to be to take it from the front to try not to damage the bottom of the car, but it would destroy the back bumper- second was to try to lift it straight up but that would damage both sides of the car or third was to drag it backwards and hope that it didn't leave most of the undercarriage in the ditch. so we decided to do just that. The tires blocked the water in the ditch so that it turned into a huge mud bath. We had to lay boards behind the wheel to even have a chance of getting any traction. Then the dirt was so soft that when the tow truck would try to pull my car, it would just pull his truck down the mountain. So what is the lesson I learned? Its better to risk popping your tire on some wood than to end up with your car high centered on the edge of a ditch... What did TJ learn? don't let your wife drive!
